L1 GPS as Tool for Monitoring the Dynamic Behavior of Large Bridges

چکیده
The Global Positioning System is fruit of those studies which became able to use the L band of carrier phase (frequency microwaves around 1 up to 3 Ghz and wave length close to 23 cm) for calculating the spatial trilateration. Therefore, in 1978 began the launch of the first NAV‐ STAR (Navigation Satellite with Time and Ranging) satellites – the begging of GPS as is known today. Due to the high cost of project and as the MIT confirmed by itself the excellence on civil applications (geodesy, topography, navigation, digital modeling, simulators), the American Congress, with the acquiescence of the U.S. President, pressed the Pentagon to open the NAVSTAR system for civil use and other countries. However, only from the 90s is that the GPS became popular. This was a result of technological advance in the micro-computers field allowing the trackers manufacturers to produce the GPS receivers that processed in the receiver, the codes of the received signals.

This paper presents the results of the first real application, over one cable-stayed bridge, of a research under improvement since 2000 and presents the results of the monitoring of dynamic behavior under traffic load of Hawkshaw Cable-stayed Bridge, in New Brunswick, Canada. This bridge has 2 lanes, with total length of 301.20 m and its main span of 217.32 m is supported by two towers of 36 m ...
متن کاملDesign of High Gain, High Reverse Isolation and High Input Matched Narrowband LNA for GPS L1 Band Applications Using 0.18µm Technology
Design of Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver with a low noise amplifier (LNA) in the front end remains a major design requirement for the success of modern day navigation and communication system. Any LNA is expected to meet the requirements like its ability to add the least amount of noise while providing sufficient gain, perfect input and output matching, and high linearity. However, mo...
متن کاملSeismic Behavior of Jacket Offshore Platform Subjected to Near and Far Field Ground Motions
Offshore structures such as jacket platforms have to inevitably be designed against sever environmental actions. In seismically active areas these structures also become susceptible to earthquake excitations. Strong ground motions recorded in recent earthquakes, including the 1995 Kobe, Japan, 1999 Chi-chi, Taiwan and 1999 Kocaeli, Turkey earthquakes, revealed that the dynamic motions in nea...
متن کاملReal-time damage detection of bridges using adaptive time-frequency analysis and ANN
Although traditional signal-based structural health monitoring algorithms have been successfully employed for small structures, their application for large and complex bridges has been challenging due to non-stationary signal characteristics with a high level of noise. In this paper, a promising damage detection algorithm is proposed by incorporation of adaptive signal processing and Artificial...
متن کاملSeismic Performance of seat-type bridges with elastomeric bearings
In Iran and some other countries, elastomer bearings in seat-type bridges are used with no sole/masonry plates and there is no positive connection between superstructure and substructure. Different codes have diverse provisions regarding the coefficient of friction (μ) between elastomer bearing and superstructure/substructure and also the design strength of shear keys (Vsk). Developing a finite...
